Sirenia

Posted in music, sirenia on October 30, 2007 by mydyinghopelesssoul

Sirenia is a gothic metal band from Stavanger, Norway which incorporates a mixture of Gothic metal and Symphonic metal, as well as Black metal and Death metal elements. Vocals consists of death grunts, operatic female vocals and  a clean male singer. The lyrics  are written by  Morten veland. The band uses melodic instrumentals, synthesizers, and distorted guitars with female vocals, male death vocals, clean male vocals, a choir, and violins. The lyrics are concerned with human existence, emotion, and mental states.

Sirenia came together in early 2001, when Morten parted ways with his former band Tristania due to musical disagreements and personal differences. The band failed to find a suitable singer prior to recording in France, so they conducted auditions and found Fabienne Gondamin for the recording of At Sixes and Sevens. After recording one album with Sirenia (“At Sixes and Sevens”); Fabienne Gondamin was replaced by Henriette Bordvik with whom the band recorded two albums (“An Elixir For Existence” and plus one EP “Sirenian Shores”), they have recently released a third album – “Nine Destinies and a Downfall”. The album features new singer Monika Pedersen from Denmark, who joined the band after the departure of Henriette Bordvik. Bjørnar Landa (from Artifact) joined them while recording “Nine Destinies and a Downfall”.

The former vocalist, guitar player, main songwriter and text composer of Tristania, Morten Veland, laid the foundation for a new contribution to the gothic/metal/rock scene a few years back. Those contributions were brought along when he formed Sirenia.

Speed Metal

Posted in speed metal on October 28, 2007 by mydyinghopelesssoul

Speed metal is one of subgenre in heavy metal that spawned in 1980s and was direct musical progentior of thrash metal. Used by heavy metal band such as Judas Priest,Black sabbath, and Deep purple. This genre rooted in the music of uk’s  NWOBHM bands. The term speed metal has been broken down and specified with other terms under heavy metal (typically thrash metal, power metal, , black metal) and is often succeeded by such terms when an artist’s sound or style is specifically defined. The term ’speed metal’ was also used in a very broad sense by some glam metal and NWOBHM groups during the 1980s. Many Japanese bands from the 1980s to the present can also be described as speed metal, largely due to the success of X Japan.

The exact origin is difficult to pinpoint but many consider the earliest speed metal song to be Deep Purple’s Highway star, including album from Black Sabbath entitled Paranoid.

Highway Star introduced the single-note riffing at fast tempos and the complex guitar and keyboard solos (performed by Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord respectively) borrowed from progressive rock of the 1970s, but heavily influenced by classical music. These features commonly went on to be associated with more modern metal genres, but at the time, was typical of speed metal.

Kalmah

Posted in kalmah, music on October 28, 2007 by mydyinghopelesssoul

Kalmah is a melodic death metal band from Oulu, Finland that formed in 1999. In less than a year after its formation, Kalmah was signed by Spinefarm Records, a Finnish record label. “Kalmah” is Karelian and could be translated as “to the grave” or “to the death”. The band is often termed “Swamp Metal” after their album cover themes.

Kalmah began in 1991 when Pekka Kokko and Petri Sankala founded the band Ancestor. After Ancestor had recorded two demos, Antti Kokkojoined the band as lead guitarist. In 1998, after having recorded five demos and going through five different bassists whose names are unknown, Ancestor disbanded, and was refounded as Kalmah. The new band consisted of Pekka Kokko (vocals, guitar), Antti Kokko (lead guitar), Pasi Hiltula (keyboards), Altti Veteläinen (bass), and Petri Sankala (drums).

In november 2005, kalmah has produced new album entitled The Black Waltz. The new album which consisted of eleven new songs was recorded and mixed at Tico-Tico Studios, and mastered by Mika Jusilla at Finnvox.

Kalmah’s musical style is largely influenced by melodic death metal, thrash metal, and speed metal. Kalmah is often compared to other metal bands from Finland such as Children of Bodom and Norther, possessing a heavy yet powerfully melodic sound. Like Children of Bodom and Norther, Kalmah exhibits some power metal elements in their music along with prominent keyboard melodies.

Kalmah’s first three albums relied more on higher pitched, screamed vocals but on their latest album, they have opted for lower death growl style vocals, while retaining elements from their previous albums.

List of kalmah albums:

1) Swamplord( 2001)

2) They will return( 2002)

3) Swampsong(2003)

Death metal

Posted in Death Metal on October 28, 2007 by mydyinghopelesssoul

Background

Melodic death metal contains more melodic guitar riffs, melodic solos, and acoustic guitar work than death metal. It also contains more comprehensible lyrics as well as coherent singing along with traditional death growl vocals. The pioneers of melodic death metal include Carcass , Dark Tranquillity , At the Gates and In Flames . Sentenced is also sometimes credited as the first melodeath band with the release of North from Here.

Some melodic death metal bands from the Scandinavian region combine the genre with other metal genres such as viking metal, folk metal, power metal, and symphonic metal.

Melodic death metal vs. black metal

Melodic death metal, though from the same general geographic area as black metal, rarely contains lyrics of Satanic values. Also, melodic death metal should not be confused with melodic black metal or blackened death metal, both which are subgenres of black metal. Melodic death metal contains more poetic themes, which vary greatly. Traditionally, lyrics deal with more expressionist themes.

Evolution of melodic death metal

In the late 1990s, many melodic death metal bands changed their style of playing by adding more melodic elements; more groovy choruses and riffs, more clean vocals(singing), and making more prominent use of keyboards. Alongside the traditional melodic death metal riffs began appearing other musical elements such as alternative metal melodies and singing as well as a higher production quality.

One notable contribution to melodic death metal is the Gothenburg style, named after the city from which it originated. It is not certain what band originally started the Gothenburg sound. However, it is widely accepted that In Flames, At the Gates, and Dark Tranquillity (The Three Kings) are the three major pioneers of the style. They are also some of the only widely known bands to practice it, with newer bands such as Arch Enemy and The Haunted being offshoots of Carcass and At the Gates respectively.

Regional scenes

Most melodic death metal bands are from the Scandinavian and Northern European regions, especially from Sweden and Finland.

In recent years, the genre has gained somewhat of a popularity boost, acquiring an increasing following in North America, especially among North American fans of the Scandinavian bands which still pioneer the genre to this day.

Slave

Posted in poetry on October 28, 2007 by mydyinghopelesssoul

I’m a slave born in this world of fame

I’m alive in a wrong place to born

World doesn’t want me, I’m a stranger, I’m a stranger…

Dogs are more demanded than me, there all have fame but me…

Just like a buried creature live on this universe

People disrespect me, spit on my compassionate face

Killers hide in the wind cannot be seen as they slowly killed me

Voices lingering around me pump up into my mind slowly faded when I’m in black

Suffused with the colour of red blood my hands stained

Winds groan my name keep saying that I’m a filthy slave

Wish to end my life here but I can’t

Faded Dreams

Posted in poetry on October 28, 2007 by mydyinghopelesssoul

Behind this smile there are sadness lies within it

Look up into my heart you will know it beat faster

Touch it you will see all of my sadness and you will know the pain

Leaves falling on the tress as winter come, grown up when summer come back

This is my life, solitude and happiness bound within me

My dreams are all vain and withered

I’m dauntless when I with you but now fear haunting me

I walk down on the path of my blind soul

Trying to reach the touch of light

In my dreams of mystery

By the flame of hatred I lay in the field of sorrow

Haunting by the scream of tormented soul I seek happiness

My spirit live there in harmony with scars of being left alone

The true meaning of life

Posted in poetry on October 22, 2007 by mydyinghopelesssoul

Forget the dark past walk to the future never end your life here

Time goes on without stopping

Your shadow getting bigger and bigger as you grown up

So believe in faith, your instinct; never grown up to be a wild man

In this world everything complicated so you must understand it well

Chances to survive is in your hand not by the hand of people around you

Their lies suffer you so much as you believe what they said

Have faith in yourself, your life get better as you follow your voices inside your mind

Your life goes on harmony until you know the true meaning of life

Take a good view around you

Do you know what happen around you? Around the world?

Do you know world getting older, seem people doesn’t realise that.

War, violence, murderer everywhere

Innocent die because of the chaos done by the irresponsible people

You must know life is precious than money,

If we die it will end, everything end… no more reincarnation or reborn

Peaceful will end if you don’t appreciate your life….

Siksaan akibat cinta

Posted in poetry on October 10, 2007 by mydyinghopelesssoul

Siksaan akibat cinta

Cinta….

Adakah cinta itu suatu penyiksaan

Cinta…

Cinta

Cinta

Aku hancur kerana cinta

Aku binasa kerana ditinggalkan

Aku menagih simpati dan kasih sayangmu

Tetapi engakau tetap membiarkanku

Jangan tinggalkan aku disini

Aku mohon kepadamu wahai kekasihku

Aku mahu bersamamu sepanjang masa hidupku.
